6 Watch January
I have been in the watch hobby for several years now, which has resulted in me accumulating a fair number of watches. The watches always tend to be easier to add to the collection than to leave from the collection. Once there's over twenty to choose from, I tend to fall into a sort of choice paralysis and have a hard time deciding what to slap on my wrist.
At the start of the new year I decided that I should try to limit that choice paralysis a bit. The thought of trying to wear just a single watch for the whole month did cross my mind, but I didn't feel like I could actually do it. I mean, there are just certain situations where I wound't want to wear certain watches. In order to limit myself but also have a little bit of freedom, I decided to do six watch January.
Why six watches? Well, it was going to be five, but my watch box has six slots. So of course it had to be six, right? So what did I choose..
1. Baltany california dial 45mm Panerai look-alike
I got this watch for my 30th birthday from my wife and one of my best friends. Yes, it's 45mm, but it doesn't seem overly large to me. The leather strap is comfy, and it just looks so cool to me. The California dial is sick!
This is a pretty small rectangular watch that just feels so fricken comfy on my wrist. This is like my Cartier tank alternative, but potentially... better? It has a seconds hand in a subdial. There is no crown sticking out. It's affordable! And the strap is also comfy. Not much to complain about here! The Lip is just so easy to wear.
3. Omega Seamaster 300M
This one was the engagement watch from my wife, and a great one at that! I've been reading some of the James Bond novels by Ian Fleming lately, and it seems fitting to wear this Omega when I'm doing that reading.
4. Islander Monster with robin's egg blue dial
This watch has that pop of color with the "robin's egg blue" color on the dial. Even though I've been craving those lighter watches lately, but the heft of this Islander on the bracelet feels nice to experience as well. That added color just brightens up my January that little bit more.
Sometimes I start looking into those cool new G-Shocks that seem to come out every couple of months. Titanium, carbon, ... But when I kind of zoom out a bit, I know that a normal G-Shock like this is all I really need. So I threw this G into the January rotation. Heck, I could throw it out of the window and it'll be fine!
6. Apple Watch Ultra
I wanted to make sure I can track my heart rate sometimes, like in the case of shoveling snow for an hour and being able to call it a workout. This is a good option for when I need an actual "tool watch," you know what I mean? The Apple Watch has actual function to it besides telling me the approximate time.
We're about halfway through the month now, and I've so far succeeded in sticking to these particular watches. Have I maybe held some of my other watches? Yes, but none of those have been on my wrist this month yet!
I did have a purchase of another watch about a week into January, but it has yet to arrive. When it does, I think I'll allow myself to expand this into a "six plus one watch January."
